7 Ways to Remove Pet Hair From Furniture and Carpets

1:  A carpet sweeper: These may seem old fashioned but they are an essential bit of kit for keeping your hard floors and carpets free from pet hair. They are very effective at removing all types of pet hairs from the floor (including fine rabbit hairs). You can buy cheaper manual ones or battery powered ones which cost a bit more. The brushes on the sweeper simply sweep the pet hairs and other debris from the floor into a built in dust pan. No need to get the vacuum cleaner out half as often if you have one of these gadgets!

2: Sticky tape: This takes slightly longer than using a lint roller but can be more effective depending on the stickiness of the tape! Use a piece of tape a few inches long and repeatedly stick and un-stick to the area you wish to remove the pet hair from. The hairs will simply stick to the tape!

3: The lint roller: Ideal for quick removal of pet hairs from cushions, clothing and the sofa. Slowly roll the lint roller over the area you wish to remove hairs from. Ideally go over the same area a few times for best results.

4: A good quality vacuum cleaner: Vacuuming the floors regularly may seem an obvious tip for removing pet hairs, but there are so many vacuum cleaners out there it can be hard to know which to get. A vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter is a good place to start, also one that is easy to empty when it's full of pet fluff is ideal! A good tip is to buy a vacuum cleaner that has attachments to use on soft furnishings such as the sofa and your pet's bedding. The attachments work best at hair removal if they have rotating brushes rather than static ones, so look out for this feature.

5: A hair brush: Get a cheap hair brush to use on rugs (particularly those fluffy rugs). Make sure the bristles of the brush don't have those little bobbles on the end as this could damage the rug. Simply use the hairbrush in the direction of the pile, going over small sections at a time. This will remove hairs deep in the rug. You can then go over with a vacuum cleaner (using the long pile/high carpet setting) to get the last bits out. Note: never use a hair brush on looped pile rugs as you will damage them.

6: A pet hair removal brush: A pet hair removal brush is usually made from a rubber material so the pet hairs stick to the brush as you use it. They come in a variety of styles for different surfaces/furnishings.

7: A rubber glove: Put the glove on and simply "stroke" your sofa or cushions to remove pet hairs! The hairs stick to the glove!
